Caldwell, drafted the Commonwealth's first workers' compensation legislation when he was an Assistant Attorney General. He then moved to Ashland where, for 50 years, he represented Kentucky manufacturers, including representing the U.S. steel industry at the League of Nations. He served as counsel to Associated Industries of Kentucky until his passing. Howard VanAntwerp, Jr., another founding member of the firm, also focused on representing manufacturers as well as eastern Kentucky's largest medical provider, King's Daughters Medical Center.
