What I learned from 10 year old girls running a lemonade stand. Yesterday, at our neighborhood lemonade stand, I asked the two, enterprising, 10 year old girls, "What the three most important areas of business?" The answers came rapidly: Girl 1: Advertising! Me: Location, Location, Location (yes, probably an unoriginal phrase, but an important one) In reflecting on this fun communication, we were all correct! The girls were enthusiastic about their product and service, which brought a smile to everyone's face they met and attracted customers to their stand. They also provided options (pink or yellow, with or without ice). I liked the extra special effort. They also priced their product ($1/cup) to reflect rising costs, as well as kept their supply chain in check (they didn't run out of product that I experienced). They also had a great location: Under shady trees, on the corner of a busy sidewalk which leads to one of the busiest parks in Denver. They're in a neighborhood with many dogs which need walking, which increases the frequency of seeing repeat customers.
