Financial plans attempt to predict and guess how the next 15, 20, even 30 years will unfold. Look back over the last 15 years and ask yourself if where you are today is where you envisioned yourself; did other factors like inflation, taxes, rates of return, interest rates, etc match up with your vision? What unanticipated changes in your life altered your trajectory either positively or negatively? Life is not a straight line and retirement projections are...I never understood this. More and more I am convinced that outside of say 5 years from a planned/hopeful retirement the projections are rubbish and do more to create feelings of false hope than anything.
