Orders of Protection are typically initiated by a Petition for an Emergency Order of Protection. When this Petition is filed, the petitioner (person filing the Petition) will be granted an immediate hearing in front of the first available Judge, the very same day the Petition is filed. At this emergency hearing, the Judge will evaluate whether the situation referred to in the Petition is of an emergency nature, or if the situation may be resolved at a later date. If the Judge determines that the situation is an emergency, a Court Order will issue that same day preventing contact between the person making the allegation and the accused.
