What is a Patent Search and how much does it cost?

A Patent Search reviews any existing patents that are similar to your invention and helps us determine if the invention is capable of Utility Patent protection. It is highly adviseable prior to preparing a utility patent application and may save on costs in the long run. The Patent Search costs between $849 - $1200 depending on the complexity of the product and the amount of patents found to review. We typically require about three (3) weeks to complete a Patent Search.

Do I need to have a final design of my product before I file a patent application?

If the general concept is there, that is often enough to proceed with a Utility patent, whereas a Design patent usually needs a final product to file.

What is a Trademark?

A trademark is a word, name or symbol (logo) that is used in trade with goods to indicate the source of the goods and to distinguish them from the goods of others.

What does the trademark application include and how much does it cost?

The Trademark application includes a brief clearance search to make sure your mark is likely to be registered, it also includes the government filing fee for one (1) class. The cost of the trademark application is $1150 including the gov't filing fee. This cost does not include post filing matters.

Are there additional fees after my trademark application has been filed?

Yes, every quote for an application is only for preparing and submitting the application. It does not cover post filing matters such as responding to office actions, submitting the statement of use, maintenance fees, etc. For a detailed list of fees, please see the Trademark page.
