I honestly don’t have the words or enough words right now to convey just how angry I am. I regularly prepare, advanced healthcare directives for women, or people who are capable of becoming pregnant in my practice. I’ve had in my own advanced healthcare directive language surrounding what happens if I’m pregnant, and I am unable to make medical decisions on my own. What do I want my doctors and my partner or whoever is making medical decisions for me - what do I want them to do? nnRight now the majority of the states in this country (30) have restrictions and they’re not just restrictions they will flat out revoke, deny acknowledging, not adhere to the advanced healthcare directive of a pregnant person who is incapacitated. And what that means is that if you have language or if you have any wishes about who you want your doctor to treat you or the fetus, they will not acknowledge it. nnFortunate to live and practice in a state California that does not have any law that restricts or Flat out nullifies a woman’s advanced healthcare directive, but that does not mean that I don’t travel to a state that does have those restrictions and I find myself pregnant and in need of treatment, and I’m not able to make those decisions on my own what is a medical provider in one of those states going to do are they going to adhere to the laws that California allows or are they going to adhere to the state laws that they have to deal with? nnThe fact that there are these types of restrictions on a women’s choice I guess at this point doesn’t surprise me, but this is something that nobody is talking about a woman’s right to advance plan if she’s pregnant and unable to make medical decisions on her own, and that basically those wishes in the majority of the states in this country are going to be dishonored. #pregnancy #estateplanning #patriarchy #AMD #california #lawyer...
