The length of time a lawyer has been licensed tells you a little bit about their experience. If the lawyer has a history of disciplinary problems, this is something you will also want to know. Responsible lawyers carry legal malpractice insurance. If a mistake happens, we want our clients to be protected. You should also check with the BBB to see if the firm is accredited and whether they have had any complaints. Next, find out whether the lawyer has jury trial experience. A lawyer without successful jury trial experience is like a surgeon who does not operate. A lawyer who cannot try a case is at the mercy of the insurance company. I am always happy to send anyone a copy of my published jury verdict reports. Lastly, make sure that the lawyer you speak to will be the lawyer that handles your case.
