In the midst of a serious struggle to hire more employees at the Social Security Administration, agency workers are ramping up to provide in-person services at some but not all local field offices. According to the American Federation of Government Employees that along with hiring issues, the agency also faces serious problems with its phone system for customers. Thus, it is expected that this will place additional strains on current employees when the agency starts in-person services. In an interview with the Federal News Network, the Social Security Administration said: “We have been transparent with our employees and the public about telephone problems, which we are working hard to resolve,”  However, a lack of funding under the fiscal 2022 budget exacerbates the hiring and retention challenges, SSA further stated .
