WHAT IS I.R.S. GOING TO DO WITH $80 MILLION DOLLARS. In a recent speech by Paul Mamo, assistant deputy commissioner for I.R.S. remarked on how the I.R.S. was going to spend the $80 million dollars. 1. Computerize 1099 filings, computerize payroll 941 filings. 2. S Corporation audits to ensure the owner is receiving a reasonable compensation, in other words a reasonable FICA salary. It seems that owners were taking their compensation from distributions which don’t include and withholding, hence this raised the I.R.S. eyebrows. (Large penalty for I.R.S. ). 3. Audits of large, complicated cases will increase. 4. Audits of middle sized corporations to examine fringe benefits. 5. Examination of worker classification. It is much easier for a company to hire an independent contractor where the business is not burdened with all that withholding of FICA funds and delivery to I.R.S. 6. Hire more staff.
