However, you should contact a lawyer before you file a charge of discrimination. I have had clients who told me that the EEOC or IDHR wrongly told them they did not have a case, or they drafted a charging document that was incorrect or missing important information. The employees who work intake at these agencies are not lawyers, and they are very overworked. Having a lawyer before quitting or filing with the EEOC or IDHR is crucial to the success of your case.
